Urban Poverty Alleviation
I have learned a lot about how to run a business. I want to achieve more, and this is only the beginning.
Md. Rabiul Islam, from Sonabon in Tongi, had humble beginnings. He started his work life as his uncle’s assistant in the fishery business in Abdullahpur Fish Market, Dhaka. Already eking out a threadbare existence, marriage and children brought with them a brand-new set of troubles, as it became a constant struggle to make ends meet and support an expanding family. He was desperate to add to his family earnings, but seemed to be exhausted of options.
SUDIN arrived in the nick of time as a beacon of hope, showing Rabiul a path forward. He was able to leverage his past experience of working with his uncle. Armed with a grant and start-up loan from SUDIN, an entrepreneur was born. The skills training and financial acumen he received courtesy of SUDIN and the linkages set up with quality suppliers, proved to be invaluable in seamlessly running his business.
Rabiul is now thriving. In a most surprising turn of events, he can dare to dream thanks to the tidy little nest egg that he is building up for him and his family.
