Climate Change Programme
‘I have become a trusted confidante, and it is incredibly fulfilling to assist my community.’ -Fahima, Programme Participant, Climate Change Programme
In the flood-prone village of Manikkhila, South Sreepur Union, Fahima Begum’s story is one of resilience and compassion. Growing up in a lower-middle-class family, she always felt a deep connection with her fellow villagers. Yet, limited opportunities and resources left her aspirations to serve unfulfilled, echoing the struggles faced by many in her community.
A turning point came with the announcement of recruitment for the role of Community Mobiliser under the Climate Change Programme. Eager to make a difference, Fahima seized the opportunity.
Equipped with training and support from SAJIDA, she reignited her passion for community service, engaging with villagers through home visits and courtyard meetings. Fahima became an advocate for women’s and children’s rights, guiding them on social issues and connecting them with essential services. Reflecting on her journey, Fahima shared, ‘I have become a trusted confidante, and it is incredibly fulfilling to assist my community.’
Fahima’s impact was soon felt. In one instance, a community member without land approached her for help. Without hesitation, Fahima secured unused land for vegetable cultivation and connected farmers with agricultural officers to troubleshoot challenges.
Her dedication and problem-solving skills earned her trust, and she became a vital source of guidance for her community.
Fahima envisions continuing her work to uplift her community. She remains committed to fostering trust, reliability, and compassion, helping to create a brighter future for her fellow villagers.
Through the collective efforts of Fahima and SAJIDA, the community stands resilient in the face of adversity, ready to face the challenges ahead with unity and hope.
