"Wearing the school dress and going to school with my friends brings me immense joy." - Afsinoor, SUDIN Community Member
Afsinoor, a 13-year-old girl, resides in a slum in Aftabnagar, Dhaka. Her family lives from hand-to-mouth as they struggle to support five members including Afsinoor.
The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted her education as her family could not afford to send her to school. Witnessing other girls in her community attending school deeply affected her. However, her luck changed through the assistance she received from SUDIN programme. This initiative provided essential school supplies such as uniform, books, pens, and bags, along with covering her tuition fees. Afsinoor says, "Wearing the school dress and going to school with my friends brings me immense joy."
Under the guidance of SUDIN community apas, she learned about safeguarding and self-protection against potential threats; and sensitised her about child marriage. Afsinoor now understands the implications of child marriage and the proper age for considering marriage.
Afsinoor is now determined to complete her education. Her eyes are filled with dreams of becoming a skilled worker in a readymade garments factory, where she hopes to master sewing techniques and design.
