Transitioning from long-stay psychiatric institutions to community-based care is widely recognised as the most effective and humane approach for individuals with chronic mental illnesses as it fosters independence, improves quality of life, and promotes social integration.

SAJIDA Foundation's Proshanti programme is pioneering this approach in Bangladesh, providing community-based supportive living for individuals with chronic mental health illnesses. Proshanti combines clinical and social care with livelihood support, ensuring individuals' holistic and dignified reintegration into society.

We are proud to share that Proshanti has been featured in the WHO SEAR 2024 report on the 'Deinstitutionalization of People with Mental Health Conditions.' This marks the second time WHO has recognised this impactful programme.
