SAJIDA Foundation, in collaboration with the Light of Hope, has embarked on the initiative to set up shelf-based libraries in primary schools for underprivileged children, especially in remote areas of Bangladesh.
These libraries are aimed at enhancing reading proficiency, nurturing critical thinking, bolstering emotional intelligence, and instilling moral values among the primary school going children.
To date, 102 such libraries have been established across 12 Bangladeshi districts, with 6 in districts covered by UTTARAN (Urban Poverty Alleviation program), 5 in districts covered under CCDM (Climate Change and Disaster Management), and 1 in Dhaka. Under the initiative, each school has been furnished with a shelf and a curated collection of 200 age-appropriate books.
