On 22nd March 2019, World Water Day 2019 was celebrated all over the world with the theme ‘Leaving no one behind’. The theme this year adapts the central promise of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development that as sustainable development progresses, everyone must benefit. SAJIDA Foundation’s WASH for Urban Poor Project celebrated this in different communities through disseminating information about this day and through shared knowledge on safe water. The Ward No-49 Councilor attendant as a Chief Guest. A cultural program was arranged by SAJIDA’s team and the children living on the pavements were engaged in performing a drama and song on WASH. 191 participants from the Telegu Community School, participated at a rally around the community alongside the councilor. 350 students at Shajahanpur Railway Govt. High School participated at a soap drive and hand washing steps. Lastly, SAJIDA Foundation demonstrated hand washing steps to 1,000 high school students from the Cottonmill Adorsho High School. Global Hand Washing Day observation helps raise awareness of the importance of washing with soap, it is also a fun activity fun for children to get involved, and influence peers. The WASH for Urban Poor Project focuses on improving environmental health and resilience of WASH for deprived urban poor living in slums and low income settlements.
