SAJIDA's Commitment to Healing and Recovery in Times of Need
Recent events are having a profound impact on countless Bangladeshi lives. Many individuals in the informal economy – including day labourers, workers, small vendors, and self-employed people – are facing significant crisis. Escalating healthcare and essential goods costs are severely impacting livelihoods.
Recognising the challenges faced by many in securing basic necessities, SAJIDA Foundation is providing the following support:
- Rebuilding Lives Through Care: SAJIDA is providing comprehensive care to individuals and families affected by injuries.
- Supporting Vulnerable Communities: Emergency food packages are being distributed to vulnerable communities.
- Providing Psychosocial Support: Through SHOJON, SAJIDA's tele-mental health platform, free daily counselling is available to those in need. This is a critical component in all of SAJIDA’s interventions.
By offering these essential services, SAJIDA Foundation aims to help rebuild lives and restore hope within affected communities.

SAJIDA Foundation is implementing a comprehensive support system to address the multifaceted needs of those affected by the unrest. SAJIDA has been providing medical care support to injured individuals admitted to hospitals, offering short-term financial support to the majority of patients and long-term support to nearly 5% of cases. The disbursement of financial aid for medical care is being monitored through financial disbursement records. SAJIDA’s health team has been providing a comprehensive response – Acute Trauma Care and Long-Term Rehabilitation. These services are being offered to injured individuals across Bangladesh. Reaching 28 public hospitals across 17 districts, more than 230+ patients have received support till date.
Direct Support to Injured Individuals: SAJIDA Foundation is providing comprehensive support to people injured during the unrest. This includes medical care, financial assistance, and psychosocial support. Patients hospitalised due to injuries are receiving financial aid for both short-term and long-term medical treatment. Additionally, mental health support is being integrated into the care provided. For those recovering at home, SAJIDA Foundation offers in-person support, including assessments and the provision of essential supplies such as medicines and wound dressings. Recognising the challenges faced by patients without guardians, the foundation is also providing carers to ensure their well-being.
Referral and Collaboration: To enhance access to specialised care, SAJIDA Foundation refers patients with complex medical needs to other hospitals, including its own facility in Keraniganj. Collaborations with organisations such as the Azimur Rokia Rahman Trust and Students Against Oppression are instrumental in identifying individuals requiring assistance. Through these partnerships, the foundation has reached out to injured protesters and is providing support based on assessed needs.
Community-Based Support: SAJIDA Foundation’s commitment extends to the wider community affected by the unrest. Residents within the foundation’s Microfinance Programme catchment areas are eligible for mental and physical health support. This initiative aims to address the overall well-being of the community in the aftermath of the crisis.
Long-Term Support: Recognising the potential for long-term challenges, SAJIDA Foundation is providing rehabilitation support. This includes assistance with prosthetics, surgeries, and other medical aids as needed. The goal is to help people regain their independence and quality of life.
Initiatives
In response to the urgent needs of communities affected by the unrest, SAJIDA Foundation is implementing an emergency food distribution programme. The organisation is targeting the most vulnerable populations, including daily wage earners, people with disabilities, and families with sick or injured members, to provide immediate relief and support. To date, 1850 households in Dhaka and Gazipur have received food packages.
To ensure aid reaches those most in need, SAJIDA Foundation is employing strict selection criteria. Families are being identified based on factors such as income loss, disabilities, and health conditions. The distribution process and recipients’ data are being meticulously documented to maintain transparency and accountability.
Beyond immediate food relief, SAJIDA Foundation is committed to supporting affected communities in the long term. The organisation is actively planning the next phase of assistance, which will include additional support programmes to help vulnerable families recover and rebuild their lives.
